Turi Munthe is CEO of Demotix, a citizen-journalism website and freelance photo agency. Demotix was founded with two principles at its heart - the freedom of speech and the freedom to know. Its objective is nothing if not ambitious - to rescue journalism by connecting independent journalists with the traditional media.
Professional freelance journalists, passionate amateurs and ordinary citizens can upload their photographs and, soon, videos to Demotix and share them with the community of news-addicts. Demotix then takes the best uploads and licences them to newspapers, networks and websites around the world using our industry contacts from Newsweek to al-Sharqiya.
Turi Munthe is English-French-Swedish and was brought up in London. He's been a publisher, editor, policy analyst, lecturer, journalist and talking head for CNN, BBC, NBC, al-Jazeera, Asahi, Reuters, Sky, you name it, and he has written for The Economist, Slate.com, the FT, the Telegraph, the Nation and many others.
